This movie went under the popular radar. It is a shame. Green Zone is probably one of the best thrillers I have seen in a long time.
Paul Greengrass directs a tight action movie. Nothing is superfluous. Every scene leads to the next and the tension builds gradually and effectively.
Matt Damon continues to surprise me on how easily he embodies an action hero. Unassuming and yet, BAM! Bad Ass!
The entire supporting cast is solid, but the biggest character in this movie is the setting. Set in Iraq, during the search for WMDs (weapons of mass destruction), it is a foreign, hostile environment and it adds to the tension.
I have heard some negative reviews about the legitimate aspects of the plot–and my response is that is a work of fiction and it never claims to be based on true events. And on that point, it is a helluva a ride!
